New York

NYC3

We we’re there for a week but it went far too quickly. I miss everything about the place, the smells, the noise, the sirens, the distant rumble of the subway early in the morning, the shops and the constant flow of people and yellow cabs.

We thought we would do something different this time and not stay in our usual hotel in Times Square where we’ve stayed on our three previous trips. We decided to stay in a loft in the heart of SoHo just off Broadway which we found on the excellent rental accommodation website Airbnb. We were nervous about doing something so drastically different, not having the security of being in a hotel or housekeeping a phone call away or not liking the loft and realising we had made a huge mistake. I’m making it sound like we were going to be camping in a two man tent in the middle of the Amazonian jungle but were creatures of habit and we like our creature comforts.

Our flight didn’t get in till late and we got to where we were staying at about 1am. We were met by the charming Christian the owner who quickly gave us a guided tour of his gorgeous home which covers the entire floor and is furnished with numerous Herman Miller Eames chairs…it instantly felt like home from home and we loved it. I’ll post pics of the loft in an upcoming post.

SoHo3

We’ve visited SoHo every time we’ve been to New York and loved the area so we were really excited about ‘living’ there for a week and exploring it further. We did research as we always do before going and found some highly recommended restaurants which on the whole didn’t disappoint. More info on them soon including their good and bad points.

We soon settled in and on the morning of the first day we needed to find a dry cleaners because David didn’t iron any of his clothes before leaving. Let’s just say he wished he had after being told how much it would cost to have his jeans pressed! Oh how I laughed.

Coney1

We ventured further afield this time with a trip to Brooklyn (I’ll be doing a seperate blog post on the awesome shops we found) and then went onto the infamous Coney Island. We didn’t make it there last time so David was determined to go this time. The weather was glorious and our walk along the boardwalk with ice creams in hand was very nice indeed. A lovely day.

NYC5

It was the fifth time we’d been and it was our best trip so far. It was absolutely the best decision to stay in the loft which we will definitely be doing again and  experiencing a completely different part of the city day to day. We crammed in so much but still had time to completely relax including staying in, ordering a fantastic Thai meal from the shop two doors away and collapsing in front of the TV.

We’ve already discussed maybe going back again later this year. We just can’t get enough of that big old Apple.

We are off on holiday today to a very windswept New York!

It’s been two years since our last trip to the big old Apple, our fourth time there in four years, we just can’t get enough of the place! Lots of things planned, restaurants booked and tickets to see Priscilla on Broadway. David did a very detailed itinerary six months ago!

I will be taking lots of Instagram pics along the way and you can now follow me here

Still got a few things to stuff into the suitcases, early train, a few scrummy Mojitos in the lounge and then we are up, up and away at 2pm. I can’t wait…

I came across this New York loft a while ago and I was instantly in love with it. From the original columns to the windows to the great expanses of white to the furniture…everything about it.

I can’t remember where I came across it but I think I’m right in saying that the apartment is in SoHo which makes it even more perfect…sigh…

Also loving the Papa Bear chair designed by Hans Wegner in the second pic.

Oh to have an apartment in New York…utter bliss! One day…maybe…possibly…when we win the lottery! This one in Manhattan is gorgeous and I would move in tomorrow. Loving the Krenit bowls on the Eames table, I’ve become completely obsessed with them lately. Such a simple and bold design and I need lots of them!
