NYC3

We we’re there for a week but it went far too quickly. I miss everything about the place, the smells, the noise, the sirens, the distant rumble of the subway early in the morning, the shops and the constant flow of people and yellow cabs.

We thought we would do something different this time and not stay in our usual hotel in Times Square where we’ve stayed on our three previous trips. We decided to stay in a loft in the heart of SoHo just off Broadway which we found on the excellent rental accommodation website Airbnb. We were nervous about doing something so drastically different, not having the security of being in a hotel or housekeeping a phone call away or not liking the loft and realising we had made a huge mistake. I’m making it sound like we were going to be camping in a two man tent in the middle of the Amazonian jungle but were creatures of habit and we like our creature comforts.

Our flight didn’t get in till late and we got to where we were staying at about 1am. We were met by the charming Christian the owner who quickly gave us a guided tour of his gorgeous home which covers the entire floor and is furnished with numerous Herman Miller Eames chairs…it instantly felt like home from home and we loved it. I’ll post pics of the loft in an upcoming post.

SoHo3

We’ve visited SoHo every time we’ve been to New York and loved the area so we were really excited about ‘living’ there for a week and exploring it further. We did research as we always do before going and found some highly recommended restaurants which on the whole didn’t disappoint. More info on them soon including their good and bad points.

We soon settled in and on the morning of the first day we needed to find a dry cleaners because David didn’t iron any of his clothes before leaving. Let’s just say he wished he had after being told how much it would cost to have his jeans pressed! Oh how I laughed.

Coney1

We ventured further afield this time with a trip to Brooklyn (I’ll be doing a seperate blog post on the awesome shops we found) and then went onto the infamous Coney Island. We didn’t make it there last time so David was determined to go this time. The weather was glorious and our walk along the boardwalk with ice creams in hand was very nice indeed. A lovely day.

NYC5

It was the fifth time we’d been and it was our best trip so far. It was absolutely the best decision to stay in the loft which we will definitely be doing again and  experiencing a completely different part of the city day to day. We crammed in so much but still had time to completely relax including staying in, ordering a fantastic Thai meal from the shop two doors away and collapsing in front of the TV.

We’ve already discussed maybe going back again later this year. We just can’t get enough of that big old Apple.

We are off to New York next week so this weeks feast is a collection of delicious lofts.

We’ve decided to do something completely different this time and not stay in a hotel. Instead we’ve rented a rather nice loft in the heart of SoHo. It’s something we’ve thought about doing before but just never got around to doing it, a hotel has always seemed to be the easier option but after using Airbnb it was a breeze. The only annoying part of it was finding a gorgeous loft, gasp and then realise that it wasn’t available for the dates we are there.

Anyway, there will be lots of pics of our loft and New York so keeps your eyes on my Instagram feed.

Have a great weekend.

ESU1 ESU2I eluded to having bought something in my last post and I was waiting for it to be delivered, well it’s finally arrived! An Eames ESU and just look at it in all it’s glory.

I was doing my usual daily wander through Ebayland and there it was. I gasped. They don’t come up very often at all so I was surprised to see one.I managed to get my hands on it for £900 which is still a lot of money but considering they retail new for just over £1800 I think I got a sort of a bargain…well that’s what I’m telling myself anyway.

It may look quite flimsy but let me tell you they are surprisingly heavy and awkward especially when you are trying to maneuver it up four flights of stairs. It took a while.

I’ve bought it for the chill out side of my office and it fits in perfectly. It’s everything I wanted it to be and more. I’m a very happy Eames bunny.
